The Nature Conservancy is largely responsible for restoring this once heavily developed plot back to its natural state. A volunteer accompanies us as we tour, not rough walking but bring bug spray.
After we leave Ives Road Fen, and along the way, we’ll take a pit stop.
Arrive Sauder Village on the edge of the “Great Black Swamp”!
A highly developed tourist spot, shopping bonanza, foodie park, and living history museum on 235 acres of solid ground with 40 buildings. Train ride, horse drawn trolley (additional charge), old time city streets complete with all the shops that made life worth living. These attended by knowledgeable docents and crafts people working their many trades for your enjoyment; and maybe a purchase or two. Cabinet shop, barber shop, blacksmiths, glassblowers, bakers, cotton/wool spinners, tinsmith, and farm work. And, oh yes, restaurants and bakery too.
You may click here to be taken to their website, to view the many attractions they offer.
->Members are encouraged to stay as long as they like, then head home when you’re finished touring.
