Details: Come and join in the fun with us at our 11 th annual Fun Run. This has proved to be a very popular event in the past. Next to St. Ignace, this is the largest car show in the UP, some years drawing over 700 cars.

We have a block of rooms set aside at the Escanaba Super 8 under the Viper group. Parking is safe and ample. There is room for car trailers, although the car caravan from Detroit has always proved to be fun. You will need to book your room. Most of the rooms are on the parking lot side of the hotel so you can keep an eye on your ride.

Please use the toll free number to book your room. They have asked us to use this number and not the internet for all bookings. Using this number will also ensure you are in the block reserved for us and will be the cheapest rate. A water hose or two will be available to tidy up your car if the elements don’t cooperate that day.

The itinerary for the week end:

Friday: Arrive at hotel early to mid afternoon

After checking in and taking a little break, we will head over to Riverside Auto, the local 5 star Dodge dealership, around 4 PM for a little meet and greet.  They always have some barbecue food and soft drinks for us and have again offered to host us.

Everyone should be gassed up before we go there.  There is a gas station right across the road from the hotel.

The parade is up next on Friday.  It begins at 7 PM, but we need to start lining up by 5:30 or so in order to get us all in the same spot and not be towards the end.  We will line up on the shores of Lake Michigan in Ludington Park and proceed through downtown Escanaba and through the adjacent town of Gladstone.  After the parade, all car show registrants can head to the State Fair grounds for more free food and music.

Saturday: 9 AM. Car Show at the Fairgrounds.

This car show is what our event centers around …although we take flight after a few hours of spectating. I might add that Vipers have won the open class dyno trophy three years running now. Will a Viper win again this year?

At 12:30 PM,   we will cruise to the DeYoung Family Zoo in time to see the big cats fill their palate with ‘choice cuts’ of cattle.  It is quite a show!

This is a spectacular zoo in the middle of the UP woods. They have many big cats there, including several Siberian tigers. They have new additions since last year. Carrie tells me the hippo may be there by June.

After spending time at the zoo, we will cruise down to Menominee along the Menominee River and over to MCVO members Keith and Shelly Boye. They own a marina there and the adjacent huge public parking lot has provided some entertainment and notable activities as Vipers and their handlers are prone to do. Plans are to eat again at The Landing in Menominee and then cruise back to Escanaba along Lake Michigan.  Saturday evening is optional.  We have previously attended the Krusin Klassics big community dance back at the fairgrounds, where all the raffle prizes are awarded, and / or we have kicked back in the Super 8 breakfast room which is reserved for us both nights should we want to use it.  This room has been well used the last couple years

Sunday:  Breakfast

We have a reservation at 9 AM at Delona's family restaurant.   We have enjoyed many a fine breakfast there in the past. This is a handy spot for all travelers headed south as it is on the way out of town on US 2.
