July Cruise-In July 15th

Our Cruise Night Director, Rick Jakacki, has teamed up with Bob Swartz, to provide us with a venue that has been shown to be both safe and fun for an evening get-together.

We would like to head back to Culver’s of Waterford.

Culver’s is known for their frozen custard & signature burgers made with Midwest beef & dairy.

Date/Time: Wednesday, July 15th, starting at 6:30pm
Location: Culver’s of Waterford, 7313 Highland Rd., Waterford.
You may click here for directions and click here for their menu.

Culver’s loves having our Vipers and we will have our own coned-off area!

If you are concerned about ordering inside, Culver’s has drive-thru service and even offered curb service.

As a special treat for our members, the club would like to buy you and your guest a complimentary ice cream (1 scoop & 1 topping).

Your coordinators strongly request that you not only maintain ’social distancing’ but also wear a face mask when not eating.
Thank you for making sure none of us contributes to spreading the virus.

We also suggest you bring a lawn chair, since there is a small patio and seating indoors is limited to 50 percent.

For those not familiar with this location, the easiest entry is at the light onto North Oakland Blvd, southbound (though that road is very poor, so take it easy).

Snakes Invade Shelby Township

The weather has been all over the map, for the month of June.  The night prior to our event it was cold and it was predicted it wouldn’t warm up much during the day, but the sun warmed the lot and everyone seemed to enjoy being outside with their Viper friends.

We had a great turnout with 33 in attendance and 27 Vipers.  We had a few new faces and one father/son, who happened to be driving by in their very recently purchased low mileage Gen 2 ACR.

Our thanks to our host David Holder of Direct Cars, who welcomed us for a second year.  David also provided pizza and soft drinks for our attendees.

“The Hidden Gems of Pontiac”

We start the day at the private collection of Larry Smith, founder and former owner of Autometric Collision.  His diverse collection is just spectacular: original flat-head hot rods, Alfa, Ferrari, Jaguar, Shelby, Lamborghini…to his Stout Scarab (shown at Monaco Concours d’Elegance) and the only car in the world with an X-8 engine, his Hoffman.  Larry is the consummate enthusiast, skilled mechanic, great driver and continues to be involved with the Peterson Museum, the Henry Ford Museum, M1 Concours, and Concours of America.

Larry’s address is: 888 Orchard Lake Rd., Pontiac

Coffee and donuts, provided by our club, to those members arriving at 9:30am, in advance of entering at 10:00am.

We must practice social distancing and strongly recommend the wearing of masks for the safety of our hosts and members.

We ask that you bring your own lunch, beverage and chairs, to enjoy at Larry’s place, back by the trees at the edge of his parking lot.  No time for a restaurant, as we have a lot to do!

Then we go to PMD Garage, where Gordon Heidacker will show us the latest projects.  From advanced Viper engine development to building state of the art electric karts for M1 Concourse, PMD Garage always has fascinating development projects that you will never see anywhere else.  Gordon is a former Executive with Chrysler who was involved in the original development of the Viper!  You may click here for a web preview on PMD and their address is: 40 West Pike St.

Then we end the day at (6 blocks away) LBI Limited. LBI offers a diverse collection of owned and consigned examples of various marques to cater to a discerning clientele.  Their primary focus is original cars, especially those retaining original paint and considered preservation-class worthy examples.  Covering everything from interesting Barn Finds to Concours quality vehicles.
Even better they currently have 4 remarkable Viper’s for sale, including a GTS (#10) and a Team Oreca race car!

EOI – Cruise Night Alfresco

Our club is still grappling with how to resume holding events, as restrictions are lifted.  The Board felt that a cancellation of the traditional Cruise Night, was necessary, while we looked at alternative venues.

Tim and Laura Schmitt stepped forward and offered their home and spacious backyard for a Cruise Night Alfresco.  Members were encouraged to bring their own food, chairs, and dine outdoors.  Everyone had a great time, while being safe.  It was a perfect way to socialize but aware of each other’s wellbeing.  We had a nice turnout for a Tuesday evening, with 17 in attendance and 10 Vipers.

We’d like to thank our hosts, Tim and Laura, along with our Coordinator, Bob Swartz, for coming up with this creative solution.  Our Cruise Night Director, Rick Jakacki, is looking into an outdoor setting, for our July Cruise.
